endorses Lou Barletta
Most Americans have never heard of the small
city of
Hazleton, PA until Lou Barletta became mayor.
The story of Hazleton is all too common across the country. The city of 20,000 was overrun by
nearly 10,000 immigrants many of whom were
illegal. They overwhelmed schools,
neighborhoods, and social services.
Crime exploded and illegal aliens were responsible for a
high profile
murder and a shooting at a playground.
There was one difference between Hazleton
and the rest of the
cities across the country. Their mayor,
Lou Barletta, was willing to stand up
for his citizens when the federal government failed them.
The city passed the Illegal Immigration
Relief Act that cracked down on employers and landlords of illegal
immigrants,
and another strong English only law.
Although the
laws are
still being challenged in court, both illegal aliens and their enablers
got the
message that they would not be welcome in Hazleton, and have left in
droves. Mayor
Barletta
was so popular that he won both the Republican Primary and the
Democratic
primary as a write in candidate in a landslide!
Dozens of localities across the country have
followed his
lead and are passing similar laws to take back their towns and cities.
But cities alone cannot stop our immigration
problem. The illegals will just migrate to
another
town and cause the same problems. Activist
judges can nullify the laws. And if an
amnesty passes, then all the illegals will be on the “path to
citizenship” and
there is nothing states or localities can do.
This is why we need men like Lou Barletta to
fight not just
for the people of Hazleton, but for all the citizens of the United
States. We know he has the courage and
convictions to
make a difference. Tom Tancredo is
leaving congress at the end of the year.
